How To Fix Cydia Failed To Fetch Error In iOS 7

If you have used the latest Evasi0n iOS 7 jailbreak, there is a good chance that you have encountered server overload and a number of failed to fetch errors that seem to get dished out in the debug every time a package refresh is requested. The good news, is that this is easy to resolve. Cydia is essentially an app that manages arbitrary repositories and handles the installation of packages through nominated repos. However, if any of the default repositories are offline or having difficulty updating, then these errors can be thrown up and can interfere and detract from your jailbreaking experience.

The current Failed to Fetch HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found errors that have been overshadowing the new iOS 7 jailbreak are mostly being caused by the Ultrasn0w repository and below is all the information you need to fix them.

The first thing that you need to do is launch Cydai and select the Manage option from the bottom tab bar. Next select Sources. A list of installation repositories will be shown. If this is a default installation of Cydia the list will feature BigBoss, Cydia/Telesphoreo, Dev Team, ModyMyi and ZodTTD & MacCiti. The problem is being caused by the Dev Team's repository that hosts the Ultrasn0w software unlock package. Select the Edit option from the top right hand corner and tap the Delete icon that appears to the left hand side of the Dev Team repository. When a new Delete option appears on the right side, tap on it to remove the repo.

The next step is to refresh Cydia and you should notice that the errors have now been removed from the log. Removing the Ultrasn0w repository shouldn't cause any real issues for the majority of device users but there will inevitably be some people who ultimately rely on a software based device unlock in the future. Adding the repository back to the list is as simple as going to Manage > Sources > Add and then entering http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com as the repository address.

If you have been experiencing this problem we hope this has helped. The iOS 7 jailbreak is still relatively new and as with any release there are always some little bugs to be fixed. We will keep you updated on any new information that arrives.

Jailbreak iOS 7 7.0.4 Untethered On iPhone 5s, 5c, 5, 4s and More With Evasi0n 7

Unless you have been living under a rock, you will know that the Evasi0n 7 untethered jailbreak for iOS 7 to 7.0.4 was released earlier this week. It is supported on all iPhone and iPod touch devices. These supported devices include the latest iPhone 5s and 5c, iPad Air, Retina iPad mini and iPod touch 5. This is not the full list, the full list was including in our post on Monday 23rd December. The Evasi0n 7 jailbreak supports iOS 7.0, 7.0.1, 7.0.2, 7.0.3, 7.0.4.

In order to jailbreak you will need the latest version of iTunes installed on your Windows PC or Mac. You can download iTunes 11.1.3 from the iTunes store. It is also highly recommended that you Restore to the latest iOS 7.0.4 on your device through iTunes (NOT OTA) before running Evasi0n 7. You also need to make sure that there is no lock screen passcode or Touch ID set on your iOS device and you should backup all your data before jailbreaking.

At the bottom of this post we have a video tutorial for jailbreaking iOS 7 using Evasi0n 7 but before we get to that, here is the written instructions on how to do the same.

The first thing you have to do is download iOS 7 7.0.4 jailbreak Evasion 7 for Windows or Mac. Next you need to connect your iOS device to your computer and start Evasi0n 7. Next click on Jailbreak button to start the process. Evasi0n will now perform the jailbreak in a series of automated steps and all you have to do is sit back and wait. It may take a couple of minutes to complete.

Once done, Evasi0n will inform you that you need to unlock your device and tap the new Evasion 7 app icon which can be found on the home screen. Tap the app icon and keep your device connected, it will automatically restart. Once the reboot is complete, Evasi0n will continue to apply final touches before asking you to unlock your device again. Once you unlock it, it will reboot again, followed by a Done screen.

Cydia should now be on your device's home screen. Quit the Evasion 7 app, disconnect your device from your computer and start Cydia. That's it your iOS 7 device is now jailbroken. Check out the full tutorial video below.

How To Set Up And Start Using Your New iPad Air or Retina iPad Mini

Happy Christmas everyone. We hope Santa has been good to you all. If you were lucky enough to receive a brand new iPad Air or Retina iPad Mini then this post is for you. It contains everything you need to know to set up and start using your brand new iPad Air or Retina iPad mini. If this is the first iPad you have ever owned, the first thing you'll want to do is get it set up so that you can start downloading apps and games, taking photos and all the other great things you can do with it.

The first thing you need to do is slide your finger across the bottom of the screen where it says slide to set up. The next thing you have to do is choose your language and your country. If you have Wi-Fi tap on your Wi-Fi network on the next menu. Alternatively, you can use a cellular connection, if you have an iPad that supports cellular data and it has already been activated by you carrier. Type in your Wi-Fi password if you have one and choose whether you would like to enable location services. There are certain apps like Maps that need location services enabled. On the next screen you will choose Set up as new iPad. Now you can either sign in with an exiting Apple ID or you can create a new one if you don't already have one. Next you choose whether you would like to use iCloud to backup and sync your contacts, calendars and other data. Most people choose yes for this step.

The next step is to choose whether you would like Find My iPad to be turned on. We highly recommend enabling this in the event that your iPad is ever lost of stolen because you will be able to track it from any iOS device by signing into Find My iPhone app or by going online to iCloud.com. It also helps to prevent thieves from being able to wipe your data without knowing your iCloud password.

On the next screen you get to choose the phone numbers and emails you'd like people to be able to use to contact you. Tap them to select or deselect them. On the next page you will will asked if you would like to set up Siri. We recommend choosing yet. Next you have to let Apple know if you'd like them to be able to collect diagnostics from your iPad to better improve iOS and their products. This is entirely up to you.

Once you have gotten to here, your new iPad is all set up and you can start using it. We hope you enjoy your new device and continue to check back here often for more information, advice and tips regarding all things Apple.

Jailbreak iOS 7 On iPhone 5s, 5c, 5, iPad, iPod Touch With Evasi0n

Just in time for Christmas, team Evad3rs has released an untethered Evasi0n iOS 7 7.0.4 jailbreak for the latest iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. It couldn't have come at a better time and this Evasi0n iOS 7 jailbreak is available for both Windows and Mac users and works on all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models running iOS 7.0, 7.0.1, 7.0.2, 7.0.3 and 7.0.4. This includes the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPhone 4, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini 2 and the iPod touch 5.

Those of you who are interested in getting this jailbreak right away can do so by downloading Evasi0n from the official website at Evasi0n.com. This unexpected release has also caught Saurik, the founder of Cydia by surprise and he has clarified it on Twitter that the Cydia build included in version 1.0 of Evasi0n 7 isn't official, and hence it could have some bugs. Tweaks relying on Substrate will have issues with this early release of Evasi0n but this will be fixed in later versions of Evasi0n 7.

We have also been informed that Evasi0n 7 is also compatible and will work with iOS 7.1 beta 2. More information will be made available as well as tutorials on how to jailbreak iOS 7 in the coming days. For now we can all rejoyce in the fact that the long awaited iOS 7 untethered jailbreak has finally arrived.

Google Search App For iOS 7 Released

Apple redesigned the look and feel of their iOS firmware when they introduced iOS 7 earlier this year. A lot of app developers redesigned their apps to integrate with the new look system and Google who was slow off the mark has finally decided to update its Search app for the iPhone and iPad, giving a synchronous look with iOS 7 design elements and making the experience full-screen natively.

The newly designed Search app now runs full-screen natively, which means that as soon as you launch the app on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, it will hide the status bar and cover the entire screen. Then, when you swipe to pull up Google Now, the status bar reappears, which indicates that there might still be areas to extend the experience further. However, Google Now cards themselves are fully stretched now, spanning the width of the screen for each individual card.

The new search app also has deeper integration with Google's Maps app for iOS. One thing we have noticed is that Maps search results are pulled much faster from within Google Search, with the option to toggle to the native Maps app (if installed) through a transparent button in the top right corner. Within maps, since they're loaded with Google search, you have the ability to jump back to Search app right from within Maps.

There is one last thing that is specific to the iPad, where Google has added the ability to search for images within the Search app, eliminating the need to fire up your browser and find images that you want to look at.

This Google Search for iOS update indicates that the company is heading in the right direction with promoting its user base on its biggest mobile/tablet platform competitor, and at the same time, providing a similar experience for both Android and iOS. The newly revised Google Search app is now available to download from the app store so be sure to let us know what you think of the new features.

Apple's iPhone 5c The Preferred Choice For Women

Facebook tracks usage of its service and then shares this with their advertisers in order to help target ads. This same information can be used to try and extrapolate usage data for specific devices across specific demographics. This is how we have been able to get the information that we are reporting on today. Seemingly the iPhone 5c is preferred over the iPhone 5s by women.

The data from Facebook was taken by Benedict Evans and he came to the conclusion that the iPhone 5s is the most bought iPhone. This doesn't surprise us considering anyone with a graph to hand has been stating the same thing over the past few months. It got more interesting though when Evans went deeper into the stats. According to him, the iPhone 5c is more popular among women. In fact, twice as many women own iPhone 5c handsets than men. The reason for this is the fact that the iPhone 5c comes in five different color options.

The iPhone 5c had previously been claim to something of a flop by some, but with over two million handsets sold in the last three months, it is safe to say that the colorful smartphone isn't really doing as bad as was made out. The iPhone 5c is the cheaper of the two models that were released earlier this year and as mentioned above, it does come in five great color options. Perhaps this is what is encouraging the female population to consider this model over the iPhone 5s, which costs more and only comes in the standard colors that we are used to having the iPhone in. Whatever the reason, women seem to prefer the color choices and we're sure that in Apple's eyes, it really doesn't matter once the device is selling. What do you think? Do you prefer the iPhone 5s or the cheaper, more colorful, iPhone 5c?

IOS 7.1 Beta 2 What You Can Expect

Apple's first attempt at iOS 7.1 was released last month and with it came a few changes. Apple saw fit to speed up some animations and the stability of this firmware went back a little. Apps began crashing and a second beta was in desperate need for so many people that were using the first beta. Whatever Apple changed in iOS 7.1, it was big enough to cause problems throughout the entire OS. Beta 2 for iOS 7.1 has been released now and so far so good.

There are still crashing apps. As far as changes go, Apple has once again tweaked the animation times. Opening and closing folders is faster and quitting apps is quicker. Swiping through menus and screens is more fluid. Those who enjoy bouncing animations will be pleased to hear that Control Center now bounces when it reaches its fully opened state. You can now also turn on backgrounds to buttons that were previously just text, making them easier to differentiate and ultimately, use. It's a slight step back from the completely 2D interface but is it one that will be welcomed by many.

This new iOS 7.1 beta 2 also sees a revamped list view toggle and display in the Calendar app too, which is well overdue. Those with iPads will be pleased to hear that the wallpaper from Apple's own iPad Air ad is now included as standard. There doesn't appear to be any huge and glaringly obvious changes in interface or functionality, save the moving of some Touch ID settings and the removal of the option to use the dark keyboard that was introduced in Beta 1. iOS 7.1 beta 2 also includes an option to enable iOS in the car feature. It is clear that Apple is still tweaking things here and there and we wouldn't be surprised to see at least one more beta before iOS 7.1 makes its way to the iPhone and iPad.

If you are using iOS 7.1 beta 2, do let us know what you think and what changes you would like to see implemented before the official iOS 7.1 goes live.

How To Disable Facebook Auto Video Playback On The iPhone

Facebook for iOS has been updated, not a major update, and it brings with it one noticeable new feature. Videos in your News Feed now automatically start playing as you scroll through. This might be something that some people will enjoy but for others we feel it will be a major annoyance. One good thing about it though is that it doesn't automatically play the sound unless you tap on the playing video. It brings to mind the question of why this feature has been added in the first place.

If you don't want this happening in your News Feed there is a way that you can disable it when you are using your cellular data which should help save on costs. Unfortunately there is no way to disable this on Wi-Fi. The steps to do this are listed below.

Step 1: Go to your Settings app and navigate through Facebook > Settings. You will see an Auto-Play on WiFi only setting, which you can toggle to on if you don't want videos to begin playing on cellular data. If you change you mind you can just undo this setting.

If you haven't already updated to the latest version of Facebook for iOS, version 6.8, all you have to do is go to the App Store and tap on the updates section where you should find an update for Facebook for iOS. Hopefully this little tip will help to save you money on your data costs when using your cellular data.

Major Twitter Update For iOS Allows Private Photos Over DM

Twitter has released a significant update for both its iOS and Android applications today. This major release sees some great changes that make this app look and feel entirely refreshed. The largest improvement is the introduction of images with the Direct Messages section of the app. Users with a mutual following status have always been able to count on the DM feature for private messages but they have never been able to share images. This change sees the Direct Messaging system fall in line with how standard public tweets work.

The update to the Twitter app also makes it easier for users to stay informed. The new notifications from your network feature lets you view replies, retweets and favorites from the people you choose to follow. The search results now allow quick access to the tweets of people near the current location of the device as well as people that the user follows. It is so easy for Twitter and Facebook timelines to become crowded with information and Twitter has recognized this and implemented the ability for users to save content to read at a later time through the Safari Reading List on iOS. In an effort to make the app a little more user-friendly, Twitter has also introduced some aesthetic and interaction changes. Everything looks a lot fresher with Direct Messages easier to access and Home, Activity and Discover now accessible from the timeline with simple swipes.

The new Twitter app is version 6.0 and it is live in the App store for download for the iPhone and the iPad now. If you update to this version, please do let us know what you think in the comments.

Apple Stores Now Have 100% Availability For iPhone 5s

Apple seems to have finally gotten on top of their iPhone 5s supplies. It was stated last week that the iPhone 5s was shipping within 1 to 3 days for the UK and many other markets across the world. In the US, Apple has achieved 100% stock rate in all of its Retail Stores, with each variant of the iPhone 5s available in each store.

The iPhone 5s made its debut 10 weeks ago and after a couple of week it was nearly impossible to get your hands on one of these devices. Things have started to pick up and shipping times are almost back to normal. With Touch ID, a new Gold color option and a 64-bit A7 processor, there are plenty of reasons to upgrade from the older generation models, and with first weekend sales rendering it the most successful smartphone launch of all time, Apple looks to have its most popular product to date.

There are of course, still some features lacking in the iPhone range, and although things like NFC don't seem all that justifiable given how infrequently it is used by those who do have it on their smartphones, there have been plenty of shouts for a larger display. Apple stuck faithfully to their 3.5 inch display with the iPhone 5s but it appears that a lot of iPhone owners would love a larger panel.

The in-store availability of these iOS devices also covers the unlocked, unsubsidized models, which allow users to pay full price for the handset and take advantage of the flexibility of choosing their own tariff, as well as being able to use the device worldwide if they travel a lot too. With the holiday season just around the corner, now is definitely the best time to pick up an iPhone 5s, and with each model available, you won't even have to wait too long if you order online.

50 Voice Commands To Help You Get More From Siri

Siri came with the iPhone 4s back in 2011 and caused quite a stir. The novelty however, did seem to wear off after a while and it has been quite some time since Siri made the headlines. The people over at PhoneBuff, have compiled a fantastic video of 50 voice commands that you can use to get more out of Siri. You probably won't have tried many of them and after watching this video, you might just change your mind about what Siri can do.

This extensive look at the commands that Siri can process shows that even though we might have put Siri to the back of our minds, Apple hasn't and Siri has come a long way in just two short years. The video below is almost eight minutes long but well worth watching and like us you will probably spend a lot of time pausing as you try out some of the cool commands on your iOS device.

Having watch the video, do you think Siri's knack for solving queries will have you ditching traditional Googling? Let us know what you thought of the video and if you have any of your own Siri tips to add in the comments below.

A 4K Display On The New 12.9inch iPad

The ipad mini and the new iPad air have received a lot of positive feedback but the talk of a larger iPad with a 12.9 inch display is still doing the rounds. It has been reported that there could be two different configurations for this bigger iPad and a theory as to the reason behind this was revealed by PadNews. They stated that one of the bigger iPad would have a standard 2K display while the other, higher-end model would have a 4K panel.

The talk of 4K displays has been really popular over the past little while, with all kinds of devices and machines showing support for this higher definition standard. The latest next generation consoles all offer 4K Ultra HD support to varying degrees, but this doesn't necessarily means that Apple is about to do the same. Apple are famous for going against the grain, and with LTE having only arrived last year, we don't see Apple feeling under any pressure to conform to this latest trend.

Having said that, when it comes to display technology, Apple has been among the first to test new things and you only have to look at their iOS devices and MacBooks to know that sharp displays are a top priority. In bumping up the size of the iPad to 12.9 inches, Apple will have to up the resolution somewhat to maintain the arbitrary Retina standard, so the suggestion of a 4K display isn't that preposterous. If there are to be two different variations though, we'd expect that the second, 2K model would arrive with an iPad Air-like resolution of 2048 x 1536 or similar.

We never really know if the rumors that do the rounds are true or not, but one thing we do know is that a 12.9 inch iPad with a 4K display would look amazing. At around 400 pixels per inch, it would beat anything else found on a mobile device and with iOS 7, we can only imagine what things would look like on this kind of resolution. What do you guys think, would you be in favor of a 12.9 inch iPad with a 4K display? Let us know in the comments.

Fix For Lightning Cable Not Charging Properly

We all have to charge our iPhones and quite often too. The constant multitasking and apps running in the background tend to use up the battery quicker than ever. If you have ever used Google Now over and extended period of time on your iPhone then you will know exactly what we mean. A lot of people have started to notice that their iPhones aren't charging as they should. Phones that are left to charge aren't charging and Lightning cables that are expected to deliver the much needed juice are simply failing. Others have reported that the Lightning connectors are moving around inside their iPhones a little too much and these aren't the cheap knock off cables either.

If this is something that you are familiar with, we have a fix. It won't cost you anything and it doesn't take long to do either. It should hopefully make your lightning cable fit a bit better too. We came across this tip on Reddit and it makes great sense. The thread was started by someone who found that his iPhone 5 was refusing to charge and, luckily for him, he happened to be at dinner with someone who worked for Apple.

According to the Reddit thread, the charging problem was fixed by taking a toothpick to the Lightning port and, after a little prodding and probing, relieved it of all its lint. That's the pocket link that our iPhones get subjected to every time we put them in our pockets. Obviously enough, it gets into all the nooks and crannies of our smartphones and that includes the Lightning port so that the cables won't fit in properly.

We tested this with an iPhone 5 that we have that has been a little iffy when it comes to charging and it worked. If you are facing the same problem with an iPhone 5s, 5c, fifth generation iPod touch or one of the iPads with the new lightning port then this little trick should work a treat. Let us know in the comments if it solves your problem or if you have come up with another solution.
