Apple Confirms Faulty Batteries In Some iPhone 5s Handsets

Apple really is no stranger to mishaps when it comes to their hardware. We all remember the major problem they had with the iPhone 4 and its antenna flaw. It seems that another mishap has been confirmed and this time it is to do with their new flagship the iPhone 5s. Speaking to the New York Times, Apple spokesperson Teresa Brewer confirmed that the company has identified a small number of iPhone 5s handsets that may suffer from a defective battery. This means that their phones will take longer than normal to charge or have a shorter battery life that normal.

She went on to say that they recently discovered a manufacturing issue affecting a very limited number of iPhone 5s devices that could cause the battery to take longer to charge or result in reduced battery life. Apple are reaching out to customers with affected phones and will provide them with a replacement phone.

Apple hasn't confirmed just how many of these handsets are affected, but they did say that it is in the thousands which isn't surprising considering 9 million iPhones were sold just over the 5s and 5c opening weekend. Apple will be contacting those affected and offering replacement handsets in exchange for the faulty ones. If the numbers are as small as Apple says though, the chances of the iPhone 5s you have in your pocket being faulty is rather small.

If you are experiencing problems with your iPhone 5s battery, we do recommend that you contact Apple and let them know.

Apple TV Firmware iOS 6.0.1 (11B511d) Released

Software updates have been coming out of everywhere over the past couple of days and while the Mac, iPhone, iPad and even the iPod touch have all received new versions of their software, it looks like someone inside Apple still had time to remember their little hobby Apple TV. This little black box has received a new update to its custom version of iOS taking it up to iOS 6.0.1. It may not be right the way up there with other iOS devices but considering its not really iOS as we know it, it is still a move forward for those who enjoy the Apple TV.

The new update which is available to download for free via the Apple TV's built in software update feature doesn't appear to have a great deal of new features. We are assuming this new firmware is essentially to provide a boost in performance and some stability improvements.

Apple TV iOS 6.0 saw a lot of new features and services being added to the Apple TV back in September so this update is clearly to address issued that were caused by that. The likes of iTunes Radio and AirPlay from iCloud were added last month and they are just two of the more interesting features that came to this streaming device.

We all know that the Apple TV isn't a priority for the Cupertino firm, but the steady stream of updates do keep on arriving so there could be hope for those of us who still wish for something a little better from Apple when it comes to the home entertainment market. Considering how the Apple TV didn't see a hardware upgrade this year we could possible see something special arriving next year.

New BBM Update For iPhone Fixes iOS 7.0.3 Crash Issue

The BBM app for the iPhone was reportedly crashing for number of users after iOS 7.0.3 was released. The BBM app wasn't the most popular in the first place and this is because those who didn't already have a BBM account had to wait in line while BlackBerry got their stuff sorted. Installing this app left a lot of people with nothing to do except for enter their email address and then wait. Things got worse once Apple updated iOS to 7.0.3 which partially broke BBM in the process. It is something that can be worked around but it has been a pain for a lot of people.

BlackBerry has now updated their BBM app and it apparently fixes the iOS 7.0.3 problem. Making the app actually work isn't the only thing that is part of the BBM update. They have also added contact categories, list sorting and filtering in BBM groups, performance improvements and of course they have fixed bugs.

While these updates are all great, we can't help but think that BBM is off to a bad start on iOS . This isn't being reflected in the App Store charts though, where BBM is currently sitting pretty in the number 1 spot after just a couple of days of being made available for download. The number of people actually able to use it though will no doubt be rather smaller than those that have downloaded it.

If you want to get you hands on the BBM app you can head over to the App store now and get it. Hopefully BlackBerry will keep working to improve its functionality and those who don't have accounts don't have to wait too long become it becomes a fully functioning app that they can actually use.

Apple Announces iPad Air and Retina iPad Mini 2

Apple held their media event with the announement of the new iPad and the new iPad mini. The new fifth generation iPad has been entirely revamped with a thinner and lighter overall design. It's also more compact, boasts some tidy new display tech and it's been given a new name: iPad Air.

The new iPad Air is 20% thinner that the last generation iPad 4. The bezels are 43% thinner and it weight just one pound. It has a 9.7 inch Retina panel and it definitely is a really winner over all the tablets we have seen to date. The iPad Air offers a 64-bit A7 processor coupled with the M7 motion coprocessor. The new A7 processor is twice as fast as the processor found in the iPad 4. The iPad Air comes in two colors; Space Gray and Silver and will be available on the 1st of November in 41 countries around the world.

Apple also announced the new iPad mini 2 with Retina display. As well as packing a wonderfully-crisp Retina panel, the smaller of the two tables also includes quite a few features that we're more than familiar with including the A7 processor. This is a huge step up from the A5 which was seen in the original iPad mini and makes it a serioulsy worthy counterpart to the full sized iPad Air. The device now offers a 2,048 x 1,536 resolution panel, which makes photos crisper, apps clearer and iOS 7 a little bit more beautiful. The iPad mini 2 comes in Space Gray and Silver. The iPad mini 2 with Retina display comes in 16, 32 and 64GB storage configurations in either Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + Cellular and will be available in November.

What To Expect From Apple's Media Event October 22nd

Apple's media event takes place tommorow and we are expecting them to announce at least two new iPads. We also suspect that we will see one or two other products being shown off and in this post we want to give you the roundup on we think this event might bring.

The most obvious device that we expect Apple to demonstrate and make available very soon is the iPad mini 2. We expect that this device will come with Retina display but there are some questions around what CPU power the device will have and whether or not Apple will bring Touch ID to this tablet.

The next device is the iPad 5 and this is set to be based on a chip that closely resembles the A7 found in the iPhone 5s. The iPad 5 might also get Apple's new Touch ID. The new larger iPads are always seen as Apple's high-end tablets so bringing a fingerprint sensor to the iPad 5 makes perfect sense. The iPad 5 is also expected to feature a new, smaller bezel.

On the software front, and hot on the heels of iOS 7 we expect to see OS X Mavericks demonstrated. Now this this version of OS X 10.9 has been seeded to developers, we wouldn't be at all surprised if Apple launched the new operating system tomorrow making it available instantly via the Mac App store.

We are also hoping to have answers regarding the Mac Pro and how much it will cost. The MacBook Pro is another item and Intel's Haswell seems to be the new kid on the block and is currently powering the MacBook Air. Bringing the new chip to the MacBook Pro is just a matter of time and we might just see this revealed tomorrow too.

It looks as if all of the iWork and iLife suite of apps for iOS are going to be updated with their iOS 7 makeovers for Tueday too. There really are lots of things that might happen tomorrow and as always we have to wait and see what really does transpire.

Facebook iOS App Udated With New Editing Features

The Facebook iOS app has been updated for the iPhone and the iPad. This latest update is version number 6.6 and brings with it some great features. This iOS app now looks more like the desktop website and Facebook has brought some rather useful features to the mobile platform including comment editing, photo comments and more.

The most useful feature that we can see if the ability to edit Facebook comment on iOS . Being able to correct typos or completely re-write what you have previously said is now something that is possible on iOS.

If you like to make comment you are going to love the fact that you can now add images to comments on Facebook posts. This is something that those using the web interface have been able to do for quite some time. With the Facebook for iOS app previously lagging behind the web version it really is great to see it getting some attention. The new updated iOS Facebook App allows you to edit your posts and comments and tap to see all your changes. You can also add a photo when you comment, express yourself with icons when you post to someone's timeline and get to privacy shortcuts by tapping the lock by your name in the main menu.

Facebook was one of the first companies to get a refreshed app out for iOS 7 and this really is great to see. Twitter is sure to be next and who knows what companies will follow. Let's just hope it continues and we see more apps getting updated for iOS 7.

Apple's iPad Media Event To Be Held On October 22nd

It may seem like just yesterday that we had the iPhone 5s/4c event but now we are on to the next chapter. Apple has sent out invites for the October 22nd event where we believe we will see the introduction of the next generation range of iPads. The tagline on the invites says We still have a lot to cover, and this will probably lead to a lot more speculation over what this event will hold.

The expected iPad event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco on October 22nd at 10.00am PT. Apple has used this venue on a number of occasions to introduce new hardware so it should feel like home for the attending media and company executives.

If we are to go on history, we already know that device specific speculation goes into overdrive when an event has been officially announced. There has already been a great deal of rumors surrounding the potential introduction of the iPad mini2 that could come with Retina display and a faster processor. A lot of iPad mini owners have complained about the performance compromises on the device when iOS 7 is installed so an improvement under the hood would be a very welcome addition for those who prefer the 7.9 inch tablet.

The inclusion of a fingerprint sensor in the iPhone 5s and accompanying introduction of the Touch ID technology has also increased speculation about the future of the iPad. Apple's Touch ID detection allows users to unlock the device as well as authenticate App Store purchases by scanning a pre-registered fingerprint on the home button of the iPhone 5s. Rumor has it that the same technology will be adapted and used in the iPad 5. Whether or not the iPad mini will get the same biometric based love is another story.

An October announcement means that the iPad range will be available for the holiday shopping season. Apart from the iPads, we're expecting Apple to announce new Haswell MacBook Pros, the availability date of the new Mac Pro, and of course the release of OS X Mavericks to the general public.

How To Find The .com Button On iOS 7 Keyboard In Safari

There are a lot of people out there who are still trying to find their feet when it comes to iOS 7. This has to be the most ever changed version of Apple's firmware and one of the features that some people may think that Apple has omitted is the .com button. Well folks, it is still there and it really isn't that hard to find when you know how.

To help you out, here is a little tutorial on how to find the .com button on the iOS 7 keyboard when using Safari. If you are having a little difficulty transitioning from iOS 6 to iOS 7 then this little tutorial should help to make things a little easier. There are so many of us that use the .com button especially when searching for different URLs and having it sort of disappear has left a lot of users a little confused.

The .com shortcut makes it easier to type in a URL and the steps for finding it really are quite simple.

Step 1: From the iOS 7 home screen just lauch your Safari browser. From here you can start to type in the URL you are looking for. When it comes to getting the .com ending all you have to do is tap and hold the period (full stop) key until you see the extensions pop up.

Step 2: From here all you have to do is press the extension that you want to use. You can select from .us, .org, .net, .edu or .com.

If you happen to be using a keyboard from a different region the results might be a little different but you should see the .com on every keyboard. It's just a little handy trick that will save you a little bit of time when you are typing URLs and of course it is good to know that Apple hasn't removed it either.

How to Fix iOS 7 Keyboard Lag On iPad

It really isn't a secret any more that iOS 7 on the iPad isn't exactly as good as it could be. Apple started their beta process for the iPad version of iOS 7 later than it did for the iPhone and iPod touch, and many people were expecting it to launch at a later date too. Instead though, Apple brought iOS 7 into the public domain across all its mobile devices simultaneously, leaving those running the software on a tablet with plenty of bugs to work with.

As far as bugs go, not being able to type properly is definitely a major one. This is what has happened to plenty of people who have found themselves suffering with iOS 7 on the iPad. An unresponsive keyboard is something that has been reported by so many people and they are finding typing on their iPads to be a very poor experience since updating to iOS 7.

In this post we are going to look at how to fix this problem with iOS 7 on the iPad.

Step 1: You need to go into your iPad's Settings app, and then iCloud. For here you want to toggle Documents and Data to off and then turn it back on again.

Step 2: next you need to go into General and then Reset. You have to choose Reset All Settings here. You will have to reconfigure some stuff after this but hopefully you will get a usable keyboard in the process.

We're not sure how long this improvement will last but if your keyboard is almost unusable then this really is worth a shot. It worked for us and with iOS 7 on the iPad being so buggy this fix really is better than no fix at all.

Apple iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 Event 22nd October

Apple is set to hold and iPad announcement event later this month according to AllThingsD. The Wall Street Journal property's Joh Paczkowski has claimed that October 22nd is the date that we will get to see what new iPads Apple plans on unveiling. While this event is set to focus on Apple's upcoming tablets, it is entirely possible that the new Max Pro and OS X Mavericks could put in an appearance.

There aren't that many details available at this moment, but AllThingsD seem confident that we will see both the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 being presented on stage. This puts to bed the claims that the iPad mini 2 won't be ready on time. Paczkowski also said that the iPad mini 2 will pack a new Retina display too, which is another fact that has been a matter of debate over the past couple of weeks.

Given the fact that AllThingsD have in the past been very accurate we are inclined to believe their sources. We are hoping that the new iPad mini 2 with a Retina display will be unveiled. Invites for this event should be arriving any day now if this news is correct so we'll know soon enough exactly what to expect. It is also expected that the new iPads will feature Apple's Touch ID sensor and if we are lucky enough we will also get to see a gold color option for the iPad mini 2 and the iPad 5.

For the time being, we remain in the dark but in a couple of days we should know more and we will report it all here so be sure to stay tuned to the blog for more information.

Apple Adds Tips And Tricks For iPhone 5s, 5c And 4s To Their Website

As part of their efforts to continuously improve the levels of service that they offer, Apple have added official tips and tricks for the iPhone 5s, 5c and 4s to their website. If you have one of these devices and are experiencing difficulties you will be delighted with this news. These tips and tricks ahve been designed to help owners get the best out of their iPhone.

The in-depth iPhone tips that are offered will even benefit the most experienced users. There are plenty of great little nuggets of information pertaining to iOS 7 that you might not even realize exist. Rather than acting as a full and thorough online user guide, the website seems to be focusing more on allowing users to get the most out of their device when using the new iOS 7 firmware.

These published tips only concentrate on the latest hardware too and you won't find any information on the iPhone 5 which has been dropped from Apple's lineup. If you do however own a new iPhone 5s or 5C you will find this information really useful. Apple also has a page dedicated to the iPhone 4s.

All of the guides use the same format and are extremely visual. The layout is broken down into very specific sections such as Photography, Swipe Gestures, Siri, Mail and Music. Apple has also included a small paragraph of text with each entry that gives users a little nugget of information about the section being discussed.

These new pages are live on the Apple website and all you have to do is head to apple.com and choose your specific page: iphone-5s/tips, iphone-5c/tips or iphone-4s/tips to find out everything you need to know.

Apple Reportedly Has 5 Inch iPhone, OLED iWatch and 12.9 Inch iPad In The Pipeline

Now we know that the iPhone 5s is still pretty much in mid-launch but rumors have already surfaced about the next handset. ETNews has reported that the device is going to have a 5-inch display, which is much more in keeping with the current market trends. The reports also goes on to talk about the iWatch which will reportedly feature a flexible OLED display and more.

Most smartphone vendors are turning out devices with 5-inch+ and even bigger displays but Apple has always stayed faithful to the notion that the consumer prefers a panel that can be held and navigated comfortably with one hand. Indeed, the 3.5-inch display of the original iPhone stayed the same until the launch of the iPhone 5 and while this slight jump up to 4 inches has given iPhone users a little more display, even the iPhone 5s and 5c cut a rather feeble figure when compared to some of the industry's real monsters.

This is not the first time we have heard reports of Apple increasing the size of their display and the Wall Street Journal recently talked about the idea that Apple was thinking about making the display between 5 and 6 inches. If Apple does decide to go with this idea, you can bet that they will keep on of the 4 inch model around for a while so that they can guage just how many consumers are looking to enjoy iOS on an Android sized device.

ETNews also reported on the full-size iPad that will be taking on a similar form fact to the iPad mini when it is released next month. This report also suggests that Apple is planning an 12.9-inch iPad which is due to be released some time during 2014.

Finally, in their report, they included information on the so-called iWatch which will apparently feature a flexible OLED display from LG.

It all sounds great and we can't wait to see how these rumors hold up and if Apple will release any of these products.
